I think I have a pretty good imagination, I have lots of stories in my mind, and today I decided for the second time to try and write them down.
Both times i tried to had trouble writing female characters. I, like most of us when writing a character i imagine him to be male, fortunantely in the case of the first story i could switch gender of a character and leave the personality similar to balance the sexes and the story wouldn't be affected, i think I even prefer it this way, but in this second story it's almost impossible.
Out of 8 characters so far 3 are female, but one of them never appears ( is only talked about or speaks on the phone) and the other one appears for almost no time.
The 3rd one is supposed to be the most important but even then I just put her there because I needed a female for a specific role. I haven't even given her personality yet. And switching genders in my other characters doesn't fit wel in the story.
The main problem I have in this story is that I don't want romance at all and it's hard to write an important female character that never gets seen as a sexual or romance interest by the male single protagonist, unless I make her an old lady or an ugly nerd.
Basically, is it possible to write a story about a group where there are female and male characters together and NEVER the characters showing interest in one another? Maybe tha't doesn't happen because in real life it's also rare...
Maybe I'll give the protagonist a gf but is away during the story to turn down his interest in other girls, sounds viable?
Or I just ignore "the Bechdel Test".
