Earlier this morning Gethsemani found out that apparently a new TV-show started in Denmark last week. The host is a man named Thomas Blachman, a musician most famous for being one of the judges in the danish version of X-factor, who has been bemoaning the "dickless society" that he feels Denmark is turning into. Not to fear though, along with public service channel DR2 he has created a TV-show in which he invites another man to sit with him on a couch... as a woman gets naked in front of them and they talk about that woman's body and about their thoughts about women in general. That's it, the entire idea of the show is to let men talk about the bodies of naked women while the woman is standing right in front of them.
According to Blachman himself (in danish) "the female body thirsts for words. The words of a man" and his intention is "the noble ambition to make women's perception of men's perception of women positive again". The intention of the show is to get an insight on men's perception and ideas about the female body, sexuality and men's sexual ability aswell as "where men are headed in the dickless society".
So yeah, Gethsemani can see how a talk show about sexuality, gender and how they impact on men and women can be needed. What Gethsemani can't see is why a woman has to get naked in front of two men and then have her body commented on by these two men, in what is shameless objectification, in order for this kind of discussion to happen. To Gethsemani it reeks of male privilege and absolutely appalling gender politics, especially when it airs on a state-owned public service channel.
