I will get to my point, since my point goes into other subjects and I am going to start rambling.
I fear for this game, I do not believe all press is good press, it isn't. especially in a society where people can vote with wallets, this game is going to hit shelves with so much bad news behind it it isn't even funny, and to top it all off, it is riding the wave of sh**y decisions made by capcom who has left their franchises either non existent or being re-released, or having a new iteration and leaving a horrible taste in peoples mouths, and they even have some racist and sexist tensions still going (non just resident evil street fighter is chocked full of this stuff too).
I fear for this game because its whole being in a sense is a bad decision, don't get me wrong this could be a wonderful game ( I doubt it and i will elaborate on that in a bit) but its a living testimate to "why..."
A quick side note, from what i can gather dmc 4 didn't do so hot, it i didn't do bad , it didn't do hot though. While that and a hiatus seem reasonable for restarting a series, this is capcom. This is the company that didn't release a new street fighter since 3rd strike in the late 90's and just resold street fighters untill 4, this is the company that is still selling the same okami and has not made a legit sequel, this is the company that sold megaman in the 2000's if you can sell megaman for that long after the 90's, surely you can give devil may cry some leeway.
Lets start at the last iteration of this series dmc4, the only legitimate complaint about that game was "its too short". Some people said they didn't like nero, and him and Dante had the same character model (which they dont.. at all they just share white hair) but the only real problem that kept coming up was "its too short, just the same levels backward and forwards". I'm sorry that doesn't even sound like an insult, that's like saying
"that cake was yummy i wish there was more"
" well then i will have to make a new cake"
"ooh more cake"
"no a completely different cake"
" no i want the just want more of that cake"
" too bad, now my friend is making you a new different cake"
"why..."
Next lets talk about the new development team, ninja theory. While as an artist myself I cannot argue with a character redesign ( this isn't rant about me hating new Dante forewarning, but in case you wanna know, i do ) i dislike everything around his redesign
He is based of one the head designers or someone at the company, while i think this is an ok practice with a new character, with an already recognizable character, it just seems very unprofessional. Like if i dunno jay-z made a mickey mouse game, and he made mickey mouse look like kanye west, and then after blamed the audience for the product for the tank of some album I dunno the imaginary blue print 7, and also blamed them for why design looks this way.
so... yea, they top brass at ninja theory kinda of berated the audience they are trying to sell this too, and in many ways made themselves look bad.
My 3rd reason why I fear for this game is capcom, capcom was a cool dude, as of late he had been hanging with a bad crowd and he doesn't have the best reputation. And this game while adding to its reputation is going to suffer for it. Resident Evil 6, one of the major complaints is that it is appealing or trying to appeal to a different or larger fanbase and it changes the game for the worse. The same is being said of this game, and it hasn't even been released yet. I feel like this game is the spectacular spider-man movie, it didn't really need to be made and you saw the crappyness (or perceived crappyness this game could be good) months away, and it made an appeal to a fanbase that didn't really have a relation to the core concept.
some would argue dm3 Dante , while his game is popular, he isn't, his brother took the cool character design prize in that game , its why the Dante in marvel vs capcom is dmc 1 and 2 Dante in 3's clothes just to make it make some type of sense when virgil shows up and Trish shows up and not nero.
The point I am trying to convey is, this game may be good, but people like my are not going to buy it because they have been so turned off by the two entities behind it.And them being so full of sh** that the sh** is over flowing and surrounding the game with sh** and its so stinky and disgusting were not even going to see if its good or not.
