The articles aren't long, so please by all means check the full story. The gist, however, is that former talk radio host Adam Kokesh is organizing an open carry march on Washington D.C. for the Fourth of July to "put the government on notice that we will not be intimidated & cower in submission to tyranny". And by open carry, they do explicitly mean with loaded guns - which are not permitted in D.C. - slung across their backs, which they intend to take across Memorial Bridge and on a route passing by the Capitol building, the Supreme Court and the White House.
Kokesh insists this is intended to be a peaceful demonstration wherein physical resistance to the march will be met with the group "peacefully [turning] back, having shown that free people are not welcome in Washington". Kokesh also maintains that as this is intended as an act of civil disobedience they do not have a permit for such a demonstration, nor will they seek one. As of right now, the facebook page for the group has almost 2500 people declaring their intent to be a part of the march and just over 2200 others who are listed as 'maybe attending'.
Now, call me crazy, but this just strikes me as a recipe for disaster. Kokesh's statements non-withstanding, it only takes one idiot to make another 'shot heard round the world' and turn this into a tragedy.
