By which I mean, you hear something so hyped up that it turns you off even giving it a chance. Or you do give it a chance but are very critical of everything it does from the word Go.
I know hype is never really considered a good thing in high doses, since you're likely to still enjoy it but it won't live up to your expectations. I'm talking absolute Overkill hype though!
For me personally, it's Doctor Who. I have never seen an episode of it nor do I know much about it, but I can't bring myself to even try. It has just been hyped up to such a ludicrious extent, that I refuse to believe it could be that good. I would have no choice but to watch it with ridiculous expectations (thanks to hype it is "OMG IT'S LIKE THE BEST THING EVER IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE") and no matter how good it really is, it will just disappoint me. I'm not even a big fan of science fiction so it already has to overcome that before it can impress me. I just don't think anything can be that good.
So, has hype ever completely turned you off something rather than made you want to partake in it?
