This isn't sexism, and that isn't sexist.

Actually, ironically, this is sexist, and this original post will be full of sexism.

Allow me to explain;

Sexism is the philosophical theory of gender roles. Surprised the definition doesn't allude to negative interactions between the genders? Don't be, it is a common misconception due the context of all discussions being focused on the negative aspects of sexism. Further perpetrated by cherry picked definitions taken from internet, or other such non-philosophy or sociology sources.

Sexism is not inherently negative, allow us to move past this notion shall we?

Let me begin by saying I am a 28 year old male, if you have just completely dismissed everything I have said or will say because of my gender, that would be quite negatively sexist.

That is bad, and you should feel bad. Shame on you.

So why have I started this thread amongst the countless others on the topic, or more specifically, on this site? This is because every other thread has been extremely negative, mostly caused by the misconception sexism is inherently negative. While not entirely incorrect, discussions focusing solely on the negative aspects are still technically discussions on sexism, it is not how one correctly goes about discussing the topic.

Men and women are different, that is not to say we should not be treated equally, we should. We are completely different genders, we have evolved to fill entirely different gender roles. Claiming wanting to be treated the same is as bad as someone who claims to be "color blind" on the topic of racism. It is the complete wrong way of looking at things. Willful ignorance on differences between people is the root of the problem. Different is not bad, on the contrary, it is differences that make anything and everything good.

How bland would our world be if everything was the same? Everything the same color, everyone acting and doing the same things? It would suck wouldn't it? I think so.

But I digress, I do want to focus a bit on the negative aspects of sexism, but with the knowledge that is not all that sexism represents.

Too much lately have there been an outcry condemning sexism and all it represents. I feel this comes from hypersensitive people tripping over themselves to be politically correct. Political correctness is also part of the problem. People want to behind courtesy as a way to avoid uncomfortable subjects, like saying things politely will make all the bad go away.

IT WONT! THERE IS HATE IN THE WORLD AND YOU ARE CONTRIBUTING TO IT BY WANTING IT TO SLINK AWAY SILENTLY!

Talking about sexism and racism is not making matters worse, it is bringing to light solutions. Hate and prejudice will continue, it is ingrained into us, it is how we survived as a species. Being judgemental and insular to the point of paranoia is what kept our ancestors alive, but that does not work in our world anymore. Societies have been established, those who are different than you do not want to destroy everything you so voraciously protect.

Women and gay communities and minorities are not going to destroy society, but they are going to ruin the patriarchal establishment. It is going to happen, better jump on the bandwagon before you get run over. Stop making it so hard for us all to treated equally.

Now let us delve deeper into something that came under fire for being "sexist," the Hitman Absolution Trailer.

Is it sexist? As we have already established, yes it is sexist, it has sparked discussions on sexism. Is it an example of the negative aspects of sexism?

No.

Why not? Mostly because people being hypersensitive have focused on the wrong things with the trailer. Having a squad of well endowed and esthetically pleasing hitwomen dressed as burlesque nuns is not negatively sexist. I am sorry, it just is not.

Is it offensive?

Well... yes, dude is killing people... and lets be frank, everything is going to be offensive to someone, we are indeed a negative species aren't we? But the women in the trailer are not trying to kill 47 because he is a man, they are not especially brutal in their violence against 47 because he is a man, they are not slavishly fawning over the virile male. They were hired to kill a person regardless of gender and are performing the task to the best of their abilities using every tool at their disposal (including their looks and choice of clothing.) 47 is not killing the squad of hitwomen because they are women, he is not especially brutal in his violence against the hitwomen (quite the opposite he is professionally efficient in dispatching his attackers,) and 47 is not trying to dominate the women.

So let us recap; 47's actions were not negatively sexist, the hitwomen squad's actions were not negatively sexist, but the trailer was offensive.

So why did everyone jump on the sexism bandwagon? I believe it is because they found it especially offensive and just jumped to the more convenient excuse, regardless of how correct it was. And, hypersensitive people were too busy tripping over themselves to actually question whether or not things were as claimed.

So let us discuss shall we? I will be reading further posts and will edit more into this original post if there are further discussions that add insight or even change my perceptions on this topic.
