Everyone wears labels to define themselves and to fit into groups. When I am with my friends I am the crazy one, when I am on certain parts of the Internet I'm a whovian or a brony and when I come here I am a gamer. Recently, however, I've been hearing the word "NERD" rather than gamer to identify the type of people that come here (Probably doesn't help that I recently discovered the vlogbrothers). While I know that there is no gate, nor gatekeeper to keep me from interacting with the wonderful people here because I don't fit certain criteria, I certainly feel a bit left out because that was never a label that I used nor one anyone ever gave to me. All of this to ask: What do you consider a nerd? Someone who likes non-mainstream stuff? Some who is bullied because of their likings? Someone who reveres intelligence and knowledge? And more important: Does any of that matter?
