SimCity Intro Video Teases In-Game Rocket Launch
EA unveils SimCity's intro cinematic spanning multiple cities, which may well be connected via the multiplayer system.
SimCity, the city building simulator, returns in March with its next iteration providing players the chance to live out their dreams of creating their own 3-D virtual world. In the meantime, EA, via their YouTube channel and official site, have released the game's initial introduction trailer to whet fans' appetites. The trailer features some mechanics that may appeal to franchise purists who have been there since its inception.
The franchise, which was started by game designer Will Wright in 1985 with the working title "Micropolis," grew to become a recognizable name over time. Maxis, the development company for all "Sims" related games, was founded in 1987 when Wright met Jeff Braun who co-founded the company.
The introduction trailer, which shows off a little bit of the simulator's GlassBox engine, delivers some detail into the presentation of the cityscapes, factories and towns players will be able to immerse themselves in. The game engine allows for a relatively new take on the genre allowing players the chance to, as the official website says, "see the impact of your decisions by clicking on individual Sims to learn about what they're doing." Being that the trailer only offers a small portion of the game, this feature cannot be fully seen until the game launches. What can be seen however, is the amount of detail the development team put into designing the GlassBox engine which brings the game to life.
EA has said that players can create up to 16 cities. One thing that is new with this title is that it supports multiplayer, which is a new addition to the SimCity franchise. SimCity is slated to be released on PC March 5.
