Since two of my favorite people on this site have already weighed in on it, I feel as though a rebuttal is warranted.
Because every culture has a right to feel angry when they feel their culture is being sold.
Fake geek girls may not be a blight, but they're certainly a symptom. Geek is now a 'cute' term rather than an insult, which in itself is an insult to those who were called geeks, nerds, dweebs or whatever for their whole lives. This was a lifelong affliction, their name and their culture was cursed and they were serving until death.
Finally, in the darkness of DND clubs, on the internet, in comic stores, geeks and nerds finally banded together under the ironic guise of using this backhanded sentiment to unite. Geek. Nerd. No one used to want to be called these things except geeks and nerds.
Now it's cool. The ACTUAL geeks and nerds are still not cool, but the thing they cherished is taken away.
And there's nothing that can be done.
That's all I want to say. Not that I can change your opinion, Jim Sterling and Bob Chipman. But it's not a non-issue. I still respect you guys thoroughly.
